CELEBRITIES WHO HAVE SUFFERED MISCARRIAGE

I always say that misarriage has no boundaries.  I think we all tend to think that celebrities have it all and have the perfect life.  But, the fact of the matter is that they are regular people just like the rest of us and many of them suffer through infertility and miscarriage.  Here are some high profile celebrities who have opened up about their miscarriages:

P!nk revealed that was pregnant with her daughter during a 2010 episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres

Show.” The singer said she delayed making the announcement because of her experience with pregnancy loss.
“I didn’t want to talk about it because I was just really nervous, and I have had a miscarriage before,” she said.

In 2013, Gwyneth Paltrow told the Daily Mail’s You magazine that she experienced pregnancy loss after having her two children.
Discussing her children’s requests for a new baby sibling, the actress said, “I had a really bad experience when I was pregnant with my third. It didn’t work out and I nearly died. So I am like, ‘Are we good here or should we go back and try again?’

_______
BeyoncĂ© spoke publicly about the miscarriage she suffered before becoming pregnant with Blue Ivy in her 2013 HBO special, “Life is But a Dream.” The singer described her experience as “the saddest thing I’ve ever been through.”
_______
Like her famous onscreen character Monica, Courteney Cox also struggled with fertility issues. The actress had multiple miscarriages before carrying and giving birth to her daughter Coco. “I get pregnant pretty easily, but I have a hard time keeping them.” she told People magazine.
_______
While pregnant with her twins Monroe and Moroccan, Mariah Carey told “Access Hollywood” that her first pregnancy with Nick Cannon had ended in miscarriage.

“It kind of shook us both and took us to a place that was really dark and difficult,” she said.

SAINT RITA, NEW PENDANT NECKLACE FOR IMPOSSIBLE CAUSES

Even if you did not grow up Catholic, you may still find some comfort in prayer to saints who are
associated with certain causes and conditions.  One of these is Saint Rita.

Among the other areas, Rita is well-known as a patron of desperate, seemingly impossible causes and situations. This is because she has been involved in so many stages of life – wife, mother, widow, and nun.  Those who are trying to conceive or experiencing miscarriage may truly feel that getting pregnant and having a heathly pregnancy is truly an impossible cause.  But, sometimes the things that
we think are out of our reach can come easily.  I have done many blog posts on women who went through fertility treatments only to fail time and time again.  Then, miraculously, they get pregnancy by surprise.

MISCARRIAGE HELP FROM CHINESE MEDICINE, ACUPUNCTURE

Recurrent Miscarriage Pregnancy Loss Can Be Helped With Chinese Medicine

I really like the Chinese Medicine philosophy when it comes to getting pregnant over 40 or any age.
They look at the whole person rather than just giving drugs and medications to force your body to ovulate whether it's ready or not.  Treating some of the underlying causes of miscarriage will help  you carry to term.  This site does a good job of explaining the Chinese philosophy of treating infertility and the underlying cause of miscarriage:

See also: www.getpregnantover40.com for alternative medicine and home remedies for miscarriage

From the principles TCM, our body must be in an “optimized” state of  balance before one can conceive.  To maintain a pregnancy, one must maintain the same balance.
http://www.getpregnantover40.com/fertility-necklace.htm
Baby Hope Necklace, Moonstone, Amethyst, Rose Quartz
But such balance is not as clear as black and white, on and off, or zero and one state.  Instead, it is a bell-shaped curve with the highest point on the top as the state of optimal balance.  In other words, a woman can and often does get pregnant when she is in a suboptimal state.  But, it is this group of pregnancies that are often subject to the greatest chance of miscarriage after becoming pregnant without acupuncture and Chinese herbal treatments.  When the body’s condition deviates too far from the optimal balance point, there will be no more pregnancy.   The process of maintaining a pregnancy past the 1st trimester is much like driving on a paved country road for 3 months without veering off onto the soft shoulder.   Being pregnant with suboptimal balance is much like driving a car with two wheels on the soft unpaved shoulder of a road.  If all four wheels get on and stay on the paved road, the pregnancy will go on.  But, there is higher chance for all four wheels to slide off onto the unpaved soft shoulder and get stuck, or for the patient to miscarry.

Let us look at the genetic factors.  When fetal tissues from miscarriages are analyzed, approximately 70% will have chromosomal abnormalities such as trisomies 13, 16, 18, 21 and 22.  In most cases, the couple is chromosomally normal.  Therefore, the fetal chromosomal abnormality is considered a “random” event.

This event is the result of a failed division of a pair of chromosomes.  Under normal circumstances, only one branch of the pair is copied  instead of the whole pair.   This condition occurs more frequently with the increased age of a couple.  As we age, optimal balance is harder to maintain and more is needed to restore balance for both partners of a couple in order to prevent miscarriages.  Acupuncture and Chinese herbal treatments help achieve this balance.  When eggs or sperm develop under an optimized condition, there is less chance of environmental damage to an otherwise genetically normal egg or sperm.

Endocrine factors.  Thyroid hormones TSH, T3, T4, Estrogen, and Progesterone all have a profound influence on the state of the optimal balance and vise versa.  Abnormal balance will in turn lead to hormonal imbalance.  Luteal phase defect is just an example of inadequate progesterone level or progesterone receptor response to the hormone.

Circulatory factors.  This is one of the major factors in recurrent miscarriages.  Blood circulation to the pelvis is crucial in achieving and maintaining a pregnancy.  It delivers the necessary nutrients, hormones and oxygen, and removes the metabolic waste products.  Hormones FSH and estrogen need to communicate between the pituitary and the ovaries.  Such communications are done thru the blood flow and carry these hormones.

WHAT CAUSES UTERINE FIBROIDS?

Uterine Fibroids

Guest Post By Dr. Miriam D. Martin

Fibroid tumors are benign growths originating in the uterus. The incidence of uterine fibroid tumors increases as women grow older, and they may occur in more than 30 percent of women 40 to 60 years of age. (American Family Physician 2007) Most women have no symptoms related to these tumors. However, there are some, who unfortunately, face a myriad of signs and symptoms related to fibroids.
The most common symptom is abnormal uterine bleeding. The periods may be heavier and/or longer. Spotting may occur between the normal menstrual cycle. There may be severe pain (dysmenorrhea) associated with fibroids as well. If the bleeding is excessive or prolonged, iron deficiency anemia may develop.
Depending on the size and location of the fibroids, additional symptoms and conditions may develop.
These may include:
  • pelvic pain
  • abdominal pressure
  • back pain
  • urinary obstruction
  • painful defecation
  • infertility
  • miscarriage
It is not known why uterine fibroids develop. Research done by the Mayo Clinic suggests:
http://getpregnantover40.com/fertility-bracelet.htm
Click here for our complete line of fertility bracelets

  • Genetic alterations. Many fibroids contain alterations in genes that code for uterine muscle cells.
  • Hormones. Estrogen and progesterone, two hormones that stimulate development of the uterine lining in preparation for pregnancy, appear to promote the growth of fibroids. Fibroids contain more estrogen and estrogen receptors than do normal uterine muscle cells.
  • Other chemicals. Substances that help the body maintain tissues, such as insulin-like growth factor, may affect fibroid growth.
Other potential risk factors which are being studied are:
  • Obesity. Some studies have suggested that obese women are at higher risk of fibroids, but other studies have not shown a link.
  • Oral contraceptives. So far, strong data exist showing that women who take oral contraceptives have a lower risk of fibroids. This is generally true for all women, except those who start oral contraceptives between ages 13 and 16.
  • Pregnancy and childbirth. Researchers have also looked at whether pregnancy and giving birth may have a protective effect, and so far pregnancy and childbirth seem to have a protective effect.
According to a new study, African-American women whose diet is largely comprised of foods that spike blood sugar levels may be at an increased risk of developing uterine fibroids. (Infertility and Miscarriage Examiner)
Diagnosis of uterine fibroids is generally made during gynecologic physical examination. The examiner may feel a mass or note enlargement of the uterus. Confirmation of the diagnosis can be made with ultrasound.
In general, uterine fibroids cause no symptoms and require no treatment. Until recently, the mainstay of treatment for fibroids was hormonal therapy or surgery. Since uterine fibroids are stimulated by estrogens, anti-estrogen hormones are used to shrink the tumors. However, there are many side affects to hormone therapy, i.e., osteoporosis, menopausal symptoms. As a result, hormone therapy is only used for a short time and the fibroids tend to recur once the therapy is discontinued.
The two main surgical interventions are hysterectomy (removal of the uterus), and myomectomy (removal of the tumors). Newer advances in the treatment of fibroids and their symptoms are uterine artery embolization (blocking of blood flow to uterine vessels leading to shrinking of the tumors) and endometrial ablation (destruction of the uterine lining).
If you are experiencing symptoms from uterine fibroids, discuss your options with your health professional. There are many options, other than hysterectomy available. Undoubtedly, with continued research, other techniques are on the horizon as well.

DO MISCARRIED BABIES COME BACK NEXT PREGNANCY?

Miscarriage:  Where Does The Baby Go?

I've talked to a number of women who've experienced miscarriage or recurrent miscarriage. When these women do succeed in having a baby, many wonder if one of their miscarried baby's souls "came back" into their baby.

See www.getpregnantover40.com for more on miscarriage and recurrent miscarriage

Obviously my official answer to this is "I don't know". All I can give you is my experience and my pick me) is she knew that I had the maturity and patience to deal with her strong personality. I frequently joke around and say "Any baby that can survive in my uterus must be pretty strong willed".

opinion. Before my daughter was born, while I was pregnant with her, she moved around like crazy. I would feel her kick more than 40 times in one hour. After she was born she was and still is VERY active and has a real zest for life. She wants to participate in everything and she isn't one that needs a lot of reassurance or cuddling (I wish she liked to cuddle more). I think one reason she picked me as her mother (and I think she did

So in answer to whether or not one of my six miscarried babies came back as my daughter, I would have to say no. I think my daughter held on so tight there's no way I could have ever lost her pregnancy. I'm not saying that my babies who miscarried didn't have the will to live (and I try not to blame myself for not being able to give them life), it's just that my "gut" feeling is that they were all different souls.

I often wonder where they are and who they are. My daughter would have loved a sibling (and we're so happy with one, we never even coNsidered having another). Maybe we'll all meet again someday.

MISCARRIAGE IN THE BIBLE

What The Bible Says About Having A Miscarriage?

Guest Post by:
Author: Albert Seal

"For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us." Romans 8:18 ESV
A miscarriage is especially damaging on the mother. Simply put, there is no more devastating experience than carrying a child—your child—in your stomach for nine months, nourishing it with your own body, singing it to sleep, only to give birth to a stillborn or a dead baby. But the miscarriage is painful to the father as well, of course, but it's still the mother that suffers the most from the experience. A miscarriage can really break a woman's spirit.
The trauma brought on by a miscarriage is one the reason why a pregnancy following a miscarriage has become a sensitive issue of debate for both Christian and non-Christian couples. It is not only the emotional bond of the mother to her new child that is at stake here – but also the Lord's stand on pregnancy following a miscarriage?
When is the right time to try again? What does the inspirational Bible verses say about having children following such a tragedy?

continue, not because of works but because of him who calls—" Romans 9:11 ESV

As the father and breadwinner, it is understandable that you'd want to have children with your wife. But after a miscarriage, the situation becomes completely messed up.
First things first, you must consider her feelings. Is the pain still fresh in her mind and in her heart? Losing your child is no simple thing. You must be certain the wife is ready to take on the task of another pregnancy.
As the father, next you must consider her health. Is her body ready for another pregnancy? You need to talk to your family doctor about this issue. There are several reasons why women have miscarriages, and make sure the same reasons don't spill over to your next attempt at a baby. If the miscarriage was due to malnutrition, then be certain your wife is healthy and in good shape before you guys try again.
Here's an inspiring Bible quote:
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations." Jeremiah 1:5 ESV

ECTOPIC 17X HIGHER WITH FROZEN EMBRYOS

Ectopic Pregnancy and IVF Frozen Embryos

Wow, I was astounded to read this article about how frozen embryos increase the chance of ectopic pregnancy.
I had two ectopics, which both were the result of IVF. Statistically, there is a higher risk of ectopic with IVF, but frozen embryos have a 17 times greater risk! If ectopic pregnancies rupture, it can be life threatening. Read more:

SEE MORE ABOUT ECTOPIC PREGNANCY HERE (getpregnantover40.com)

Using frozen embryos in fertility treatment raises the risk of a potentially fatal ectopic pregnancy by 17 times, researchers have found.

Using frozen embryos in fertility treatment raises the risk of a potentially fatal ectopic pregnancy by 17 times, researchers have found.

Scientists had thought that the risk of ectopic pregnancy was only slightly increased for frozen embryos compared with the use of "fresh" embryos. The American researchers said they had been surprised by the results and were not sure of the reason.

Alison Cook, a spokeswoman for the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority, which regulates fertility treatment in Britain, said the study was a "serious concern". "We have never come across these figures before. We will be studying the research," she said.

When a woman first has IVF treatment, doctors usually transfer between one and three "fresh" test-tube embryos into the uterus.
http://getpregnantover40.com/chakras-for-fertility.htm
Sacral Chakra Fertility Bracelet

In the past 10 years technology has meant that increasing numbers of couples are choosing to freeze some of the created embryos, giving them a chance of trying further IVF cycles if the first one fails. After the first attempt, women can use the frozen embryos without having to go through the painful process of hormone treatment, egg retrieval and fertilisation for a second, third or even fourth time.

Frozen embryo storage also allows patients having chemotherapy treatment and other women to create fertilised embryos and delay motherhood until they want to try for a family.

Doctors are becoming increasingly concerned at the effect of the freezing process on embryos. Last month, the fertility expert Lord Winston called for more research, and warned that some women were, in effect, being experimented on before the dangers were known.

A study carried out by Lord Winston's team at the Hammersmith Hospital in west London has shown that some types of embryo freezing may alter behaviour of a gene that supresses tumours. Delaying the transfer of embryos to a mother - another technique used in some clinics - also seemed to interfere with genes in animal experiments, he said.

The new study by scientists at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, to be presented to the annual confe- rence of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine in Texas today, has revealed more concerns. The researchers compared 2,452 cycles of IVF using fresh embryos, with 392 using frozen transfers. They found that 1.8 per cent of the fresh cycles led to an ectopic pregnancy, compared with 31.8 per cent of the frozen attempts.

MISCARRIAGE RATES MISLEADING

Miscarriage Rates Are Hard To Quantify

It seems we keep hearing about higher miscarriage rates, but the rate of miscarriage may just appear to be higher because women have the ability to detect pregnancy so early.  I've seen statistics that up to 20% of pregnancies may miscarry - and on top of that, there are many unconfirmed conceptions and pregnancies which miscarry and are taken as a period.

I do believe however, that there are factors that may contribute to miscarriage that can controlled naturally - such as stress, exposure to toxins, use of certain medications, diet, etc.

FAULTY ENZYME MAY EXPLAIN MISCARRIAGE

Miscarriage and Uterine Lining Enzyme

I suffered six miscarriages before I had my daughter.  I frequently wonder if my change in diet and lifestyle might have changed my body chemistry to a point where I was able to conceive and carry to term.  All of my doctors put me in the "unexplained" category...and some just called me "too old".  But there may be more to the story.
If you've never heard of SGK1, you're not alone, I hadn't either. But, apparently, this enzyme in either high or low quantities may explain both infertility and miscarriage. Read more:

SEE ALSO: MISCARRIAGE OVER 40 AND 10 THINGS YOU MAY NOT KNOW (getpregnantover40.com)

From the article:

Researchers from Imperial College London looked at tissue samples from the womb lining, donated by 106 women who were being treated at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust either for unexplained infertility or for recurrent pregnancy loss.

The women with unexplained infertility had been trying to get pregnant for two years or more and the most common reasons for infertility had been ruled out. The researchers discovered that the womb lining in these women had high levels of the enzyme SGK1. Conversely, the women suffering from recurrent pregnancy loss had low levels of SGK1.

MISCARRIAGE HARDER AFTER SHARING ON FACEBOOK

Sharing news of your pregnancy

Many people are so excited about their pregnancy, that they share it with the world on social media like Facebook and other sites.  The problem is, if things don't go as planned and a woman miscarries, it creates a dilemma as to how to handle it.

For more on miscarriage, visit getpregnantover40.com

I was pregnant before I ever had a facebook account, however, we were very careful not to tell anyone about my pregnancy until I had finished my first trimester and we were fairly certain the pregnancy would make it.   Here is one woman's story:

"Facebook made it infinitely harder," says Jenna Lemaster of Palm Desert, Calif., who miscarried at 18 weeks. "I chose to take down the pictures and my postings about the pregnancy," but then she felt guilty. "I didn't want to pretend like it never happened, but I had to remove it so I could heal and not have a constant reminder."
http://getpregnantover40.com/miscarriage-memorial-jewelry.htm

Miscarriage can lead to depression that can last from a few months to several years, experts say. And women tend to feel they are being observed in their grief, even if a miscarriage is not announced online, says Julianne Zweifel, a clinical psychologist in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Wisconsin. "That feeling of being observed is only expanded when women share in the social space," she says. "Women don't want to appear as oversad or judged as melodramatic. But if they are doing OK, they wonder if they come off as cold or uncaring."

ACUPRESSURE TO PREVENT MISCARRIAGE

I have a DVD called "Fertility Bodywork" where I demonstrate the acupressure points to help enhance fertility, but can acupressure help prevent miscarriage? This article explains how it may help prevent pregnancy loss.  Read more:
  • Acupressure treatment for pregnant women is generally initiated in the first week through to the twelfth. It is beneficial for mothers to be as it facilitates absorption of nutrients and hormones, cutting down the risk of miscarriage.
  • Capitalizing on what the body is already doing right, acupressure points encourage correct positioning of the baby, promote lactation and reduce post-partum pain. In fact, there are points which can be stimulated in order to induce labour naturally.
  • A point located at the top of the head on the skull is actually one of the acupressure points to prevent miscarriage and stop bleeding.
  • However, there are certain points that an acupressure practitioner must avoid on a pregnant lady. While dull pressure is ok, pinpoint pressuring must be avoided at all times.
  • Acupressure points near ankles, the SP6 located at three fingers’ width above the ankle and
    http://getpregnantover40.com/saint-gerard-for-fertility.htm

Hegu on the hand should be avoided under all circumstances. If manipulated, this point can lead to preterm contractions, resulting in premature birth.
  • Points on the lower abdomen and lower back should be avoided to prevent any injury to the foetus.
